This movie is delightfully absurd and just what I needed after a long day. The Lobster is nominated for original screenplay and the story is nothing if not original. Here’s the synopsis:
In a dystopian near future, single people, according to the laws of The City, are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in forty-five days or are transformed into animals and sent off into The Woods.
It is dry and odd and just oh so absurd. I laughed out loud several times over how absurd the whole thing was. Everyone plays their roles so deadpan and serious that you can’t help but have fun with how odd everything is. I can’t really describe it, because it has to be experienced. The world created here is just so weird and well crafted, you don’t question any of the insanity and you have to just laugh at all the madness.
